Confessing our sins to one another - James 5:16

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
James 5:16 (NIV)

“Yes!” we say to the “pray so that you may be healed” part, but my guess is that we’ve been ignoring the first part.

Confessing our sin to one another is a big part of the healing we need, but we prefer to accept our particular struggle(s) as normal and perhaps even impossible to overcome, instead of inviting another believer into the fight with us.

“Dearest LORD, we are so independent and proud and admit we have been reluctant to confess our sins to one another. Please, reveal to us by your Holy Spirit who in our community is safe for us to begin sharing about those areas of our life which need healing & freedom from habitual sin. Give us the courage to obey and connect with that person and bravely find more freedom in you because we have followed your will and your ways. We don’t want to settle, we want to be powerful and effective!”

As I’ve prayed this, the Lord has shown me what I need to do business with sin about, and who I should confess to and pray with about it. So friends, let me likewise encourage you to do it too! Amen? Amen!
